Slim Down Tips for 2007

Here are some tips to help you slim down in 2007… remember to keep it slow and steady to ensure long term success!
Set monthly goals
- Make a list of goals you would like to achieve and each month select a couple of items from the list and try to make those changes happen. It’s easy to become overwhelmed if you try to do them all at once.
- At the beginning of each month, try on a piece of clothing that’s fitting a bit tight. Try it on again at the end of the month. It’s extremely motivating to see the subtle changes in your physique.
Your goals should be visible
- Seeing your goals written down and in a prominent place will help you stay on track.
- Be specific in your goal. Instead of writing “I will eat better,” write “I will eat 5 – 6 smaller portion meals every day.”
Make healthy habits part of your routine
- Instead of taking a full hour to eat lunch split it up by going for a walk for 30 minutes and eating a healthy meal the other half hour.
- Ask yourself “Why am I eating this?” before you eat anything. You should be eating because you are hungry and not as a result of an emotional or physical trigger.
-Choose a tomato based sauce instead of a cream sauce
Be restaurant smart when eating out
- To control portion size that is problematic in restaurants either request a half order or ask for half to be packaged to take home when placing order.
- Ask for salad dressing on the side then dip your fork into dressing for taste
- Request skinless chicken
- Drink water
- If you must have a dessert, share it with the whole table
Think long term
- Strive to lose just one to two pounds a month. Over the course of a year that would be a loss of 12 to 24 pounds.
- Don’t get frustrated. If you are not losing weight, maintaining is better than gaining
