Cut the Excuses and Find a Solution
Tue 23 Jan 2007
In my line of work I’m always hearing excuses that people use to justify not exercising. Some are valid but some are what they are… excuses. My most successful clients are the ones that are committed to their fitness programs and when situations arise that make it difficult to exercise they find a way to make it happen. To them, their health and staying fit are high priorities, so much so that they will search to find a solution. Like I say, “life is about options and choices… are you going to take the elevator or opt for the stairs?” Both will get you where you want to go but down a different path with very different results!
Here are some examples of excuses I often see with actual solutions that clients have employed.
I’m so busy at work that I just don’t have the time JD exercised during her lunch break for a year and a half. Suddenly she found that getting away during lunch was becoming a challenge. So instead of cancelling her training sessions she started working through lunch, eating at her desk and moved her training session to later in the day.
I have to look after my child TR arranged with her husband that he would twice a week take care of getting their daughter ready and drop her off to daycare in the morning. LR adjusted her work schedule so that she would start work 1.5 hours later once a week after dropping her children off with her parents.
I can’t afford to hire a personal trainer and find it hard to work out on my own I looked at my client base and worked with JC to partner her up with another client to help offset costs.
Sometimes things come up that you just can’t get around. Take an honest look though… often solutions are sitting right there!
To your health!
