Remember What You’ve Accomplished

I had a good chuckle this morning. I was going through a session with my client, DM, and she makes the comment “I’m fat!” Now you gotta understand that she has been training with us for about 9 months now and has achieved fantastic results. She had to go out and buy a whole bunch of new clothes and get her suits tailored to fit her new physique. The back pain and fatigue she was experiencing is pretty much gone and she just flat out looks fantastic! And she’s not FAT!!
This whole “I’m fat” thing stems from enjoying herself during the holiday season and indulging in food and drink. Now, if you know me, you know that I preach practicing healthy eating habits which if followed on a regular and consistent basis allows you to indulge sometimes and not worry about it. It’s about fitting exercise/nutrition into your lifestyle and not lifestyle into your fitness program. A favourite mantra of mine is “Make smart and healthy choices that allow you to enjoy life at the same time.”
I pointed out to DM the progress and results she has achieved and we discussed the fact that she has already proved she can do it so it’s just a matter of buckling down and focusing on the task at hand. 45 minutes later towards the end of her workout as she is trying to lift her hands up to wipe the sweat from her face she says “okay… I don’t feel fat anymore.”
Remembering and acknowledging what you have already achieved will give you the confidence and motivation to either move yourself out of a rut or bump it up and take things to the next level.
