I had to laugh last night when I came across an article about a gym in the Netherlands that has come up with what they think will be the next new fitness craze… naked workout Sundays. I’m sorry but that just doesn’t work for me. As it stands right now the dress code in our gym includes running shoes as mandatory just in case you drop a weight on your foot. Can you imagine accidently dropping a weight on something else!! Ouch!!! ;)

What do you think???? Will it catch on in North America?

Health & smiles,

Just a reminder to all you golfers out there. Now is the time to start getting ready for golf season if you haven’t started yet.

Focus on the following:

1. Strength training – gotta have some power
2. Core strength & endurance – if your back starts hurting your game goes
3. Twisting moves – getting sport specific
4. Ball work – hand eye co-ordination will help your short game
5. Flexibility – the easier you move the better your game

Feel free to contact us regarding a golf specific training program.

Cheers,
Ted

our online training option is almost finished the testing stage and will roll out shortly

I had a good chuckle this morning. I was going through a session with my client, DM, and she makes the comment “I’m fat!” Now you gotta understand that she has been training with us for about 9 months now and has achieved fantastic results. She had to go out and buy a whole bunch of new clothes and get her suits tailored to fit her new physique. The back pain and fatigue she was experiencing is pretty much gone and she just flat out looks fantastic! And she’s not FAT!!

This whole “I’m fat” thing stems from enjoying herself during the holiday season and indulging in food and drink. Now, if you know me, you know that I preach practicing healthy eating habits which if followed on a regular and consistent basis allows you to indulge sometimes and not worry about it. It’s about fitting exercise/nutrition into your lifestyle and not lifestyle into your fitness program. A favourite mantra of mine is “Make smart and healthy choices that allow you to enjoy life at the same time.”

I pointed out to DM the progress and results she has achieved and we discussed the fact that she has already proved she can do it so it’s just a matter of buckling down and focusing on the task at hand. 45 minutes later towards the end of her workout as she is trying to lift her hands up to wipe the sweat from her face she says “okay… I don’t feel fat anymore.”

Remembering and acknowledging what you have already achieved will give you the confidence and motivation to either move yourself out of a rut or bump it up and take things to the next level.

I was working with one of my clients, AG, the other day and at the very beginning of the workout she informed me that she was not going to join our team to climb the 739 steps of stairs at the Wall Centre to raise funds for the BC Lung Association. She felt it was too much for her and she wasn’t ready. I told her that was fine but I was still going to train her as if she was participating.

Within 10 minutes we were in the staircase walking upwards. Fifteen minutes later when we were all done and she was catching her breathe I looked at her with my straight, deadpan semi-serious look and said “you just did 420 steps plus you came down so you just did over 800 steps.” AG smiled, and said “I was waiting for that!”… pausing she says “thank you, lesson learned – I get the message you’re sending me… I can achieve more than I think I can!”

She still didn’t join our team but she is one step farther along in the process of realizing how our perceptions of reality can limit us and that we all have the ability to expand those borders, break out of our comfort zones and achieve more than we give ourselves credit for.

To your health,
Ted
